Time now to give an overview about “English things” here in Munich – not all of you might speak our quite easy German language well enough by now.
Let’s see what we can offer for all you English-speakers here in our beautiful city of Munich until you speak some proper Bavarian with our section Munich for English-speakers.
There are quite some cinemas in Munich where movies are shown in English or in original version.
We would like to highlight three of them, each one with a different approach with emphasis on Blockbusters, a fine ambient or with a very let’s say non-commercial and finest selected program.

The Museum-Lichtspiele is Munich’s second oldest cinema besides the Gabriel-Lichtspiele. It was opened under the name Gabriels Tonbildtheater by Carl Gabriel on 11 November 1910. Named to Museum-Lichtspiele in 1918, this name remains until today.
Without any doubt, this cinema is Munich’s most original and coziest cinema located in an old historical building from 1896 right beside the Isar.
All movies shown here are in original version (sometimes with subtitle) and occasionally also German ones. Many – not all – Hollywood blockbusters can be seen here as well. The Museum-Lichtspiele also has one very specialty to offer:
It holds the Guinness world record for having a movie in the regular program without interruption for the longest time – since 24 June 1977 the Rocky Horror Picture Show is on air every Friday and Saturday at 23h.
An absolute must-see not only for Rocky Horror fans. Make sure to be here on a Saturday’s show and bring some toilet paper and rice with you. Why? You will see 😉

Located in the trendy borough Glockenbachviertel, this cinema is a real insider tip. It has been opened in 1912 and therefore counts to Munich’s oldest cinemas. Since the two owners have opened hall 2, with just 38 seats Munich’s smallest cinema hall, this jewel has already won two times the Kinoprogrammpreis der Stadt München – in 2011 and 2014. Films are shown in OV with German subtitles.
If you are looking for a movie which isn’t showed in any of Munich’s other cinemas, you probably will find it here.
